Dear 5th GradeParents/Guardians,

September2, 2014

Welcome to 5thGrade at John Muir School! My name isJoy Bain and I will be your child's fifth grade teacher. I have taught sixth grade for the past 8years and I thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to facilitate the growth, bothmentally and academically, that takes place during this pre-adolescent time inyour child's life. I have two childrenof my own: Addison is 6 years old and Marcus is almost 4 years old. They are truly a blessing in our lives. Thus, I truly understand just how importantyour child is to you. I very much lookforward to getting to know your child. This year will prove to be a year full of tremendous development in yourchild's academic career.

We have high expectations forthe students here at John Muir. Theseexpectations carry over into our classrooms. I expect all students to put forththeir best effort at all times. I willdo my best to create an optimal learning environment for the students. I expect that the students will contribute tothat environment and to the goal of becoming well-educated world citizens. I support the students' growth and academicsuccess completely. I encourage allfamilies to also support your child's academic and personal growth.

Please work with your childdaily to provide a time where reading can be shared. Talk with your child and be aware of whatyour child is learning and exploring at school and outside of school. The beginning of adolescence can be anoverwhelming time for your child. However, with your support at home and my support at school, your childwill adapt to changes with much more ease.

I will do whatever I can tobest prepare your child for junior high and high school, as well as, instillvalues of being a member of a community and team. It is important to me that your child gains asense of leadership and collaboration through his/her learning experiences thisyear.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to working with you to providethe support your child needs this school year.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Joy Bain
