About Me

After earning my BS in Psychology in 1992 from San Diego State University, I went on to earn my Master’s in Education in 1999 from Webster University in St. Louis, Mo. I taught middle school math in St Louis for two years before returning to San Diego in 2001 to work in SDUSD. In SDUSD, I have taught 6 – 12 grade math, science and social studies, landing at John Muir in 2014. Although I am certified in science, math and social studies, I enjoy teaching math the most. My family of four, two adult sons and my husband, enjoy traveling, hiking, camping and walking on the beach.

Instructional Program, Focus, & Goals

My goal for the year is for my students to gain an understanding of math that will transfer to the world around us. I provide supportive, scaffolded to individual needs, instruction on the concepts of math and how to apply the basics to higher level content. Having taught in high school, I am able to guide the students through the basics of number sense, algebra and geometry to help them be successful in a high school math class.  We focus our class on organization and what it means to be a student and member of our community.  My class is structured with an organized binder, daily posted assignments in Google Classroom and tutoring opportunities outside of the class and school hours.

Ways to Help Your Student Have Success in Math

Posted daily in my Google Classroom is each day's curriculum including notes, practice worksheets and textbook problems. A Table of Contents section is available for parents to use to check their student’s binder to ensure that all assignments are complete and up to date. In addition, there are instructional/tutoring videos available for students to review or use to prep for the upcoming assignments. Students can text me when they need assistance with assignments, and I can aid via Zoom or text.  I encourage parents, along with their student, to log on to Google Classroom at least once a week to ensure all work is completed and organized.  Please feel free to email me with any concerns you may have as we move through the school year.

Looking forward to working together towards your student’s success,

Angela Schu
